December
People’s Choice Awards – Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 9 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. PST
The People’s Choice Awards is a fan-oriented award show for movies, TV, music, and digital media. The show is hosted by E! Network, and winners are chosen through online public votes. Not only does it include classic award show categories like Movie of the Year, but it also includes creative ones for online influencers, video games, athletes, and more.
At the 2021 People’s Choice Awards, “Black Widow” took home Movie of 2021, and “Squid Game” was voted Bingeworthy Show of 2021. “Saturday Night Live” cast member Kenan Thompson will host the show this year, with Movie of the Year nominees including “Elvis,” “Nope,” and “The Batman.”

Golden Globe Awards – Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. PST
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) Golden Globe Awards is a long-running staple of the annual awards season, which culminates in the Oscars. The Golden Globe has categories for film and TV, while the Oscars are dedicated solely to film. The 2023 show comes amid some controversy surrounding the HFPA, including allegations of corruption, racism, and sexual assault by senior members of the organization, with several stars stating publicly that they will not attend.
The organization has committed to changes as part of its contract with NBC. Last year saw “The Power of the Dog,” “West Side Story,” “Succession,” and “Hacks” each take home Golden Globes in their respective categories.

Critics’ Choice Awards – Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at 7 p.m. EST
The Critics’ Choice Awards, presented by the American-Canadian Critics Choice Association, is often seen as a predictor of what’s going to do well at the Academy Awards that season. Similar to the Oscars, the Critics’ Choice Awards is only dedicated to movies.
Last year, “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” “The Power of the Dog,” and “Belfast” all took home awards. Viewership for the 28th Critics Choice Awards is anticipated to be higher this year due to the controversy surrounding the Golden Globes, with the show even signing a simulcast agreement with TBS to capitalize on its broadening viewership. This year’s show will be hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are hosted by The CW network and will also be available on TBS.

British Academy Film Awards – Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023
Apart from Hollywood, there’s no force quite as prevalent in English-speaking cinema as British film. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) is as star-studded as the American award show season, with global stars and the biggest British names flocking to the red carpet. The show includes both British and international films, with separate categories for Best Film and Outstanding British Film. Last year, the international collaboration “The Power of the Dog” took the Best Film award, while “Belfast” was voted Outstanding British Film.
The BAFTAs will be streaming live on BBC in the U.K., BBC iPlayer through a VPN, or on Britbox – a streaming service that allows Americans to access British content.
Screen Actors Guild Awards – Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023
Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is a union for actors. The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) is a fantastic show if you’re interested in what current working actors appreciate in film and TV. The voting process starts with actors submitting their work for consideration and two panels – one for film and one for TV – selecting the nominees. Then, over 100,000 union members can vote online for the final winners.
The 29th Screen Actor Guild Awards will be live on TNT and also broadcast on TBS. It will be available to stream on HBO Max on Monday, Feb. 27.
March
95th Academy Awards – Sunday, March 12, 2023
The Academy Awards, the Oscars, the big one – whatever you call it, there’s no denying that the 95th Academy Awards will be the most prestigious and most-watched award show of the season. The competition has been running since 1929 and focuses on excellence in filmmaking. To be nominated for an Oscar is a high honor in Hollywood. Last year, “CODA” took home Best Picture, while Will Smith and Jessica Chastain were awarded Best Actor and Actress, respectively.
After being host-less for two years and split between three co-hosts last year, it has been confirmed that late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel will return in his third gig as host for the 2023 show. Predictions for this year’s Best Picture include “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fablemans,” “Tár,” and “Women Talking.”
The 95th Academy Awards will be live on ABC. Cord-cutters will want to find out how to watch the Oscars without cable.

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards – Saturday, April 8, 2023
The Kids’ Choice Awards is a fan-voted ceremony hosted by Nickelodeon and focuses on the best of family-friendly TV, film, music, and more. The show is less formal and more entertaining than the main season awards shows. Performances are a big part of the event, with Chance the Rapper, Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, and first lady Jill Biden taking part last year. The upcoming performances, presenters, and host for the 2023 show have yet to be announced. Last year’s winners included “iCarly” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will broadcast live on Nickelodeon.
